About
JON STONE MARINE ENGINEERING
BUILDING CONFIDENCE IN BOATS
Founded and run by Marine Engineer Jon Stone, JSME is located in Lincoln and covers the city waterways and surrounding areas. Jon, a former Royal Navy marine engineer, completed his apprenticeship at sea working on various types of ship, from frigates to helicopter carriers and shore periods for superintendent fleet maintenance. On leaving Her Majesty’s employ he stayed at sea, first as a volunteer, then as a full-time engineer for the ocean conservation group Sea Shepherd, graduating to 2nd engineer on board the MV Steve Irwin – named after the legendary Australian wildlife expert and environmentalist, on a campaign to protect the great Australian bight and preparing the vessel for a 3-month Antarctic voyage with little to no budget. From recommendations, Jon’s experience was required in Malta where Sea-Watch were preparing a recently purchased vessel for humanitarian missions off the coast of Libya. After preparing MV Sea-Watch 3 for sea and sailing for one mission as 2nd engineer Jon was invited to crew as chief engineer, a position he held through sea-going missions, dry dockings and maintenance periods, ensuring the ageing vessel met the standards of many port-state and flag-state inspections. With all this under his belt - and over ten years’ practical experience - Jon decided to return to his home town, Lincoln, and offer his professional marine knowledge and expertise to the boating community of the city and surrounding areas.
